Library
The Library is a centre of knowledge, which quenches the thrust of students and faculty. Our library is one of the oldest but developing. Our library is rich with 1600 books, catering the needs of both UG and PG sections. We have many rare and out of print classical texts. Every years books worth one to two lacs rupees, are added. A small digital library is another facility in the library. Through there are constraints in terms of space and man power, the library is trying to provide quality service to the students and staffs I am sure we will be able to make this a user friendly and model library.
Hospital
The Ayurvedic hospital in the city is known for its treatment. 175 bedded hospital housed in the heritage building is a kind of monument. Many chronic diseases like skin disorders, jaundice ,diabetes ,paralysis, joint disorders, asthma etc are being treated successfully backed by the research activities. Specially panchkarma therapy is employed during the treatment and has very high success rates. Application of leach, ksharasutra, eye exercise therapies,yoga therapy etc; are many other features. As a matter of fact, apart from Ayurvedic treatment, other Ayush health care systems- Unani and homeopathy too are employed to treat the patients.
Deptwise OPD's like kayachikitsa, shalya shalakya, streeroga, koumara bhruatya, Panchakarma and svasthavritha (and also casualty) are functioning successfully and are managed by expert faculty and physicians assisted by able paramedical and other staff.
One of the striking feature is the entire health care service is free including medicine and diet, except for those who are admitted in special wards.
To improve the infrastructure Govt has sanctioned a 100 bedded new panchakarna hospital, which will come up in KRS Road, in the near future.
Laboratory
Though Ayurveda and other Ayush systems have their own diagnostic tools, modern medical technology is used to improves the ancient principles. This is done successfully in our clinical laboratory. The lab though set up in a small are can carryout many useful investigations. This helps in validating the diagnosis made on the basis of Ayurvedic principles and also helps in monitoring the progress in treatment. Manned by three technicians the laboratory is also a unit which helps the clinical students to obtain practical approach to diagnosis. There is a plan to improve the lab. By providing modern equipments, especially semi auto analyzer to cater the needs of public.
Office
The office is a link between the institution and directiorate of ayush and the Govt. It manages several sectors like salary disursment,, collection of revenues accounts, student, transactions, correspondence with Govt,( both state and central), university matters, purchase on so many other selected matters.
The office is though always short of human resources,it fairly well managed by its haed Shri. Siddalingappa, the lay secretary.
Chandravana - A green heaven
When you enter the Chandravana, you feel green serenity touching you. The greens surround you, talking to you, soothing you, inviting you, to explore the knowledge of Ayurveda.
Chandravana is the pride herbal garden of the institution. It is situated just by the side of kukkarahalli tank in Sarswathipurm, The trees, the shrubs, the herbs beckon you to the world of Ayurvedic medicinal plants with about 300 different species. The garden is a store house of knowledge to the students. Many scholars, faculty, scientists and students of other organizations visit this green paradise. The separate potted plants are on display and a small green house too provide shelter to many plants. all these plants are source of medicines for scores of diseases. We always bag first prize in medicinal plants exhibition of Dasara flower show.
Activities
Affiliated to RGUHS, the NSS unit is actively participating in any many social activities and observation of special days, throughout the year. The special feature is 10 days camp in remote village. Our students, both girls and boys stay there, mix with the people, understand their culture and social life. Our specialty is, free medical checkup and treatment for which the rural people come in scores and obtain medical care. One of the NSS volunteers, Chetan Kumar was selected and participated in Republic day parade in New Delhi. Manu Kumar is a university hockey player and Alla Sjit Reddy has participated in University archery competitions. We are proud of them. Dr. Ramesh is our NSS officer
Students Association
Through the students are involve more in academic activities, they find some time for other activities as well. The students association is always unanimously chosen by the students and we had no election since many years. The faculty advisers guide them is their academic as well as non-academic and cultural activities.
Research
Since its inception in 1972, Kayachikitsa PG dept. is engaged in research activities. Since decade or two it has gained a reputation of its own through out of the state and even outside. Dedicated faculty, disciplined atmosphere and hardworking students made this a centre of excellence in Ayurveda, especially in Kaya chikithsa. very fruitful research programmes in diseases like skin disordes, asthama, Joint disorders, hepatitis, spondilosis, migraine, colitis diabetes etc. The Ayurvedic management in these conditions, not only validated the effect of ayurvedic therapy, but also strengthened the confidence among the student community. Another P G dept. Ayurveda siddhantha started during 2006 is getting its foothold very strongly and confidently. In order to understand and validate the basic concepts of Ayurveda many research programmes are undertaken,some of them in the collaboration with DFRL.
